Woodside

Woodside

Problem:

A Woodside oil and gas rig off the coast of Western Australia needed trolleys to help move heavy gearboxes around the rig. Due to the explosive environment, forklifts couldn’t be used. The trolleys needed to be heavy duty but couldn’t be too heavy that they needed more than one worker to operate them.

Solution:

Conquest Group designed custom trolleys that allowed workers to move and change componentry on the rig.

The design process was long as five Woodside engineers were involved in the approval of the trolleys. The rig hadn’t used anything like trolleys before, so it was a completely new concept.

Once approved, the trolleys were made from carbon steel as no aluminium is allowed on site due to risk of dissimilar metals triggering an ignition. The trolleys were packed and secured in wooden crates and sent to the rig on a container ship.
